Below are a number of resources to support the effective use of these devices for teaching and learning purposes.

Fisher Apple Academy

Fisher Apple Academy 1.0

Fisher Apple Academy 1.0 provides faculty the skills to use iPads in the teaching and learning process. The training included basic iPad navigation, training on specific apps, and brainstorming how the use of this technology might be used in specific courses. At the completion of this training, each faculty member will become an Apple Certified Teacher, a recognition given by Apple for those who receive a series of 6 badges from the Apple Teacher Learning Center focused on iPad basics. This training opportunity takes place over a 3-week period and is conducted mostly asynchronously through Brightspace, with opportunities for in-person sessions held throughout the 3-week experience for small groups of faculty to practice their skills with the support of a facilitator and colleagues.

Fisher Apple Academy 2.0

Fisher Apple Academy 2.0 expands on the skills learned in 1.0, with a stronger focus on the integration of the iPads into course design, course activities, and the ways instructors can encourage student use of the iPads during and outside of class time. Topics covered include using the Classroom app for classroom iPad management, collecting, grading, and giving feedback on student work via the iPad, encourage student collaboration with the devices, using the accessibility features of the iPad to promote inclusive teaching and universal design for learning, exploring eResources and OER opportunities, electronic testing, augmented reality and encourage student’s creativity in the creation of class artifacts.

Please check the Workshops & Events page for the upcoming opportunities to participate in the next Fisher Apple Academy.

iFisher Appy Hour

With the goal of supporting continuous exploration of the use of iPads and the vast array of apps, iFisher Appy Hour events are held once per month during the fall and spring semesters. Each event includes a small group of presenters to share an idea, an app, or a strategy that they have used and found to be successful. Each presentation is approximately 10 minutes and very informal. The goal of these events is to share with colleagues and support one another in the innovative uses the technology allows in and out of the classroom.

Check the Workshops & Events page for upcoming Appy Hour sessions to attend.

Resources for Faculty

The main source of resources for faculty using iPads in the classroom is the Fisher Apple Academy. Remember, you will have continuous access to that course on Brightspace, even after the official training has ended.

The Apple Teacher Learning Center is also a great place to visit to stay up to date with the latest features and releases that become available. There are a series of additional training modules, above and beyond those included in the Fisher Apple Academy, that you can explore to enhance and grow your skillset.

Additional resources are also available.
