FAQs for Accepted Freshmen
We know you have lots of questions now that you are an accepted student. Let us answer them!
When will I receive my financial aid package?
First, did you apply for financial aid? If not, and you would like to, you must complete the FAFSA. Fisher's school code is 002821.
Once you submit your FAFSA, they will process your information and send you the results (Student Aid Report SAR). These results will also be sent to the colleges you indicate on your form.
We will begin preparing and mailing complete financial aid packages in mid-February.
Why is May 1 so important?
May 1 is Candidates' Reply Date. Please pay your enrollment deposit no later than May 1 to secure your place in the fall class. After May 1, we may not be able to accommodate you in terms of admission, financial aid, or housing.
When will I receive registration information?
Once we receive your enrollment deposit, you will receive information regarding the Freshman Enrollment Guide in the mail, as early as March 1. This guide will provide information on academic advisement, orientation, registration, housing, and more.
What is First-Year Seminar?
First-Year Seminar is a one-credit course, taken in the fall semester, that serves as an orientation to college life and a support system as you transition from high school to college. In addition, you'll be housed in your residence hall with other students in your same First-Year Seminar so you'll be sure to make many friends right from the start.
Topics covered include wellness; participation and leadership in student clubs; engagement with community and diversity; goal setting, study skills, time management and stress management; and the ins-and-outs of life at St. John Fisher College.

Does Fisher accept AP/IB/GEMINI/SUPA and other College Credits?

How do I go about getting a work-study job?
The work-study job listing is available online through the Center for Career and Academic Planning and is posted at various locations around campus. It is up to you to contact the campus offices that advertise available positions. For more information, visit the Student Employment page.

What is there to do at St. John Fisher College?
There is always something to do at Fisher. You may choose from a wide range of campus clubs and organizations, including student government, music groups, language clubs, cultural organizations, student publications, and intramural sports. Many academic departments also sponsor clubs.
How is the food?
The food is great! In fact, Fisher was ranked No. 6 in America and No. 1 in New York state by Niche.com in their 2021 Best College Food in America list.
The main dining hall offers a wide variety of interactive dining platforms including the wokery, salad and fresh fruit bar, deli counter, grill, pasta bar, brick oven pizza, vegetarian section, and more. Several other retail outlets across campus offer coffee, smoothies, Grab & Go items, and more to suit your busy schedule.

How safe is the campus?
Fisher is a very safe campus. The Office of Safety and Security is responsible for campus safety and operates on a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week schedule. Security officers conduct regular foot, bicycle, and auto patrols of all campus buildings, grounds, and parking areas.
Access to the residence halls is controlled either by locked entrance doors or the card access system. Residence halls are patrolled and monitored 24-hours a day by security officers or resident advisors. All other campus facilities are locked and unlocked daily according to established schedules.
The Office of Safety and Security offers a campus escort service for on-campus use by all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Can freshmen have cars?
Freshmen are NOT allowed to have cars on campus, unless there are extenuating circumstances that are approved by the Parking Appeals Committee. Our priority in awarding parking spots is for commuters and resident students who have internships, student teaching, or other off-campus commitments related to their educational program. Typically, these students are in their junior or senior year at Fisher.
Where do St. John Fisher College students come from?
National surveys state that most students enroll at a college within 1-3 hours from home, and St. John Fisher College students follow the national trend. 90% of Fisher students are from New York state. Other states represented are Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Ohio, Florida, California, Arizona, and Puerto Rico.
