Countdown to Commencement: Allison Smith

January 21, 2019

The first featured senior in our Countdown to Commencement video series is accounting major Allison Smith, who was nominated by Beth Touhsaent, career and academic planning advisor; Jackie Bokor, assistant director of campus life; and Karen Costantini, reservations and events coordinator.

Smith fell in love with the Fisher campus, culture, and people when she did an overnight with a former student as a senior in high school. She chose accounting because of her interest in math as well as the legal aspects of accounting.

This year, Smith serves as chair of the 37th Teddi Dance for Love, a 24-hour dance marathon that benefits Camp Good Days and Special Times.

She said the Teddi Dance is one of her favorite events each year and she looks forward to seeing the campers and the moment when the final fundraising total is revealed.

“Every year for the past three years, this has been my favorite event, and each one gets better and better,” she said.

Smith is an executive intern to the CFO, and is also a peer advisor for Freshman Seminar with Touhsaent. In this role, Smith helps direct this course that fosters academic success, personal growth, and career exploration.

“She is phenomenal. She takes a lot of responsibility in creating the class lessons and doing instructions, and is a great mentor for the students,” Touhsaent said.

Bokor’s reflections about Smith mirror Touhsaent’s.

“She is positive, intentional, and encouraging and always keeping an eye out for students who need may need attention and support,” she added.

Touhsaent said that Smith will be remembered for her leadership, dedication, and commitment to Fisher.

As a student worker in the Reservations Department, Costantini said she will remember Smith for her drive to be involved. “I have never worried for a moment when her efforts manage the work generated in our office.  She is thorough, conscientious, and looks to accomplish more than is expected.  In a small department, she makes a big impact,” she said.
