Get Career Ready at Fisher

March 20, 2020

Being a Cardinal means you have access to a unique set of services and resources through the Center for Career and Academic Planning (CCAP, pronounced see-kap). You’ll get information about a system called FisherLink this summer, but we wanted to share details about Handshake, which is focused on careers, now. Now is exactly the right time to start building skills and experiences employers want—don’t wait until senior year!

A student talks with a potential employer at the annual Career Fair.

Handshake (you’ll find access through my.sjfc.edu) is where you’ll find job postings for part-time, summer, on-campus, and full-time jobs and internships. In fact, employers who post at Handshake have specifically decided they want to recruit Fisher students! Unlike Indeed or other big boards, Handshake is specialized to be YOUR career tool.

In addition to job postings (all campus jobs are posted in Handshake), you will find resources to help you with developing a résumé, doing company research, locating internships, growing a professional network, and much more. Just navigate to the Career Center tab, and click on Resources to see all we’ve built for you. You’ll find self-directed tools like our Guidebooks, as well as links to online resources like Vault, CareerShift, Spotlight for Liberal Arts majors, and more.

With Handshake you can also create a profile that will showcase your skills, experiences, and education to employers. We know that 80 percent of students with completed profiles are actively recruited by employers. So, while you’re writing your résumé you can create your profile and start building your professional brand. (And it’s great prep for your LinkedIn presence!)

Handshake is also where you will find opportunities to explore careers, network with alumni, meet employers, and so much more. All career events—in person and virtual—are posted in Handshake so you can keep up with the opportunities.

CCAP is with you every step of the way. If you want an in-person tutorial for how to use Handshake, email us at ccap@sjfc.edu and we’ll get it set up.  We can’t wait to have you on campus with us; we are so ready to help!
