Fisher's celebration of the 19th Annual Philosophy Day features Fr. Donald J. Lococo, CSB, who will present (via Zoom) his talk, “Mutually Respectful Dialogue: The Harmony of Science and Faith.”

Date: November 17, 2021 - November 17, 2021
Time: 2:45 p.m. - 4:05 p.m.
Location: Zoom

Philosophy Day is supported by the St. John Fisher College Department of Philosophy and Classical Studies, Department of Religious Studies, Department of Biology, Office of Campus Ministry, Office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, and William and Helen Cavanaugh Chair of Catholic Studies.

Philosophy Day, sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Culture Organization (UNESCO), and held on the purported birthday of Socrates, is observed throughout the world as an occasion for people to reflect upon the importance of critical thinking, world peace, international cooperation, and the love of wisdom. Fisher is the only college in the United States to participate in Philosophy Day every year since UNESCO inaugurated it in 2003. It will be celebrated by colleges and universities in over 30 other countries as well.

Lococo's talk is based upon his new book Life in One Breath: Meditations on Science and Christology (Wipf and Stock, 2021). Lococo is a member of the Congregation of St. Basil, and has a PhD in Zoology from the University of Toronto. Before retiring in 2018 and moving to Windsor, Ontario he taught courses in biology and philosophy at St. John Fisher College. The moderator for the event is Dr. Ann Marie Fallon, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.
