Countdown to Commencement: Jenna Vinoya

April 8, 2024

The next student to be featured in our “Countdown to Commencement” series is Jenna Vinoya, a public health student. Vinoya was nominated by Dr. Marlowe Washington, senior diversity officer.

Known for her involvement on campus, Vinoya plays a crucial role in the Student Government Association (SGA) as president, showcasing exceptional leadership capabilities. Vinoya also acts as a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) advocate on campus, integrating these principles into the work she does on campus and throughout the community.

Her contributions extend beyond her role in SGA.  As a Service Scholar, Vinoya has a passion for community service and volunteering and wanted to incorporate that into her work at Fisher. She has worked at the same service site, Refugees Helping Refugees, for the past four years helping families and clients get the resources and services they need. “At the end of the day, I know that when I walk out of the office, there is one more family that I was able to help,” said Vinoya.

She has taken an interest in a community and population-based approach to public health because of her passion for helping different groups of people and communities while focusing on DEI in her future career. Washington described Vinoya as a fierce advocate in DEI.

“Jenna is passionate about the care of others, and I see her changing the health field landscape immensely, especially for those living in disproportionate circumstances. She is doing something with DEI,” he said.

Upon graduation, Vinoya hopes to pursue her master’s degree in health care administration and continue her education in the health care field.
