Accessibility Information for Faculty

Students with disabilities are entitled to receive approved modifications of programs, appropriate academic adjustments, or auxiliary aids that enable them to participate in all educational programs and activities.

Alternate Format Textbooks

The best practice when choosing a textbook is to select one that has an ETEXTBOOK format, in addition to a standard format. An ETEXTBOOK is a digital, downloadable version of the physical textbook that works on both PC and Mac platforms.

Order textbooks as early as possible in consideration of students who require books in an alternate format. It can take several weeks to process requests for alternate formats if the text doesn’t include an ETEXT format.

Attendance Requirements

Students with and without disabilities are expected to attend all course-related activities.

Attendance "flexibility" may sometimes be appropriate for students with health-related disabilities that occur episodically or for students with mobility impairments that are impacted by weather. The Undergraduate Catalog contains Fisher's official attendance policy. 

Implementing Academic Accommodations

The coordinator of student accessibility services prepares a Letter of Accommodation (LOA) based on each student's documentation of disability and specific needs. It is the student's responsibility to provide their LOA to their instructors.

Faculty Responsibilities

• Meet with the student to review their Letter of Accommodation and discuss how accommodations will be implemented in your specific class, if necessary.
• Discuss the course requirements and exam plan relative to the student's accommodations.
