Through more intentional partnerships, the College and the Center for Sustainability have worked to generate mutual benefit for our students and community partners.
St. John Fisher College is an integral part of the Rochester community. Through extensive civic and community engagement, the College's students, faculty, and staff contributed over 400,000 hours of work in 2015 to a wide variety of organizations (see Economic Impact Study [pdf]). The Center for Sustainability works to support these efforts and provide new opportunities to engage in work that contributes to the sustainability of our region and world.
In support of the our community, we work to engage in meaningful service that addresses both human and environmental needs. Major, reoccurring efforts are highlighted below.
St. John USVI Service Trip
In September 2017, Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated the US Virgin Islands. St. John was highly affected. Schools were left damaged, homes were destroyed and the people were without basic resources. As time has passed, the recovery process has begun and Fisher students and staff are working to help by sending students and resources to spread the Fisher Family love and support. The trip, SJFC2STJ, will allow students to directly help the island through service efforts and give them a deeper understanding of the life and culture in the US Virgin Islands.Learn more about SJFC2STJ
Key Community Partners
Because none of us can do this alone, partnerships are key to the sustainable future we need. Below are key partnerships that are helping both organizations achieve their goals.
Fast Forward Film Festival
The Fast Forward Film Festival accepts short films that link our Rochester community to the environment that we depend on. It celebrates our collective creativity, connection to nature, and hopes and dreams of youth and adults alike.
Through Festival Level sponsorship of the festival, Fisher is a partner in Fast Forward's sustainability goals. Through this partnership, we bring workshops, screenings, and classroom opportunities to the campus.Visit FFFF
