# Math Workshops

The Math Center offers a number of workshops each semester on topics including fractions, percentages and ratios, and descriptive statistics.

For dates and times of workshops happening this semester, visit the campus calendar.

## Workshop Descriptions

### Fun with Fractions

This session will be a refresher on computations and operations using fractions. If Tom paints 1/5 of a fence and Terry paints 1/2, how much of the fence remains to be painted? Sally is training for a marathon and wishes to complete a total of 30 miles of training this week – she runs 8 3/5 on Monday, 5 1/4 miles on Tuesday, and 6 1/2 miles on Wednesday; how many more miles will she need to complete this week? This workshop is open to all students, but specifically targeted to Fisher nursing candidates wishing to review for the Level A Math Skills Assessment.

### Percents and Ratios

This session will be a refresher on using percents and ratios to solve problems. If something is on sale for 45% off and costs $100, how much was the original price? If I make lemonade with a ratio of three cups of water to one lemon, how much water would I need for four lemons? This workshop is open to all students, but specifically targeted to Fisher nursing candidates wishing to review for the Level A Math Skills Assessment.

### Descriptive Statistics Using R

Are you in a class where you need to compute descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation using R? Come to this workshop and learn the basics of R, an open-source software environment for statistical computing and graphics. Topics covered will include importing Excel data, computing summary statistics and correlations using R Commander, and using R output to report your results.
