Fisher’s Fall Athletes Ready for Action
As the fall semester approaches, Fisher students are hard at work, preparing for their best performances, both in the classroom and on the field. With 10 men’s and women’s sports teams gearing up for fall competition, it’s time to take out your calendars and save the dates for what could be some of Fisher’s most impressive matches.
Fisher’s women’s tennis team returns from a well improved fall 2016 season where they achieved the best record the team has had in five years. The 2017 season will consist of 11 matches in which the women will test their skills against some of the most competitive teams in the region. Seven of their games will be hosted at Fisher’s hometown court, the Mendon Racquet and Pool Club.

Men and Women’s Cross Country
Both the men and women’s cross country teams have come a long way since their first meet in 2011 following a nearly decade long hiatus. The men’s team was proud to place second in the Empire 8 Conference Championship whilst the women’s team finished fifth. Two members of the men’s team, Charles Collins and Mac Milligan, were honored as Cross Country All-Academic Individuals. Milligan additionally received NCAA Division III Atlantic All-Region honors.

Women’s Field Hockey
As the 2016 Empire 8 Champions, Fisher’s field hockey team left an impressive mark on the campus last season with a dominating 19-3 record. Additionally, Emily Markarian made College history when she was named a Second Team All-American by Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association, becoming the first All-American in program history. The team will face a challenging season consisting of 18 games, 10 of which will be hosted at Fisher’s Growney Stadium.

Returning from a season of 12 wins, the women of Fisher’s volleyball team are already hard at work for their upcoming season. The program has hosted multiple clinics to improve skills such as passing, serving, hitting, setting, blocking, and various offensive/defensive plays.
Home Opener: 7 p.m. on Sept. 6, against D’Youville College, at Manning and Napier Varsity Gym in Pittsford, New York
The women’s team also has an eventful season ahead of them with 17 games, eight of which will be hosted at Fisher’s Growney Stadium. Highlights of the previous season include defeating Elmira College 2-0 in a game dedicated to pancreatic cancer awareness. Additionally, five Fisher players - Taryn Guinta, Carly Finn, Nora Broderick, Nicolette Nigro, and Brooke Whitman - received All-Empire 8 Conference honors for their fall performance.
Home Opener: 1 p.m. on Sept. 9, against SUNY Geneseo at Growney Stadium in Pittsford, New York
This season, the men’s soccer team will return from winning the Empire 8 Championship where they defeated Houghton College 3-2 the preceding season. They will be looking forward to a season consisting of 17 games.

Home Opener: 6 p.m. on Sept. 16, against The College at Brockport at Growney Stadium in Pittsford, New York
In their 2016 season, the men’s golf team finished first in both the Laker Spring Tournament and the Empire 8 Championship. They closed the season placing 23rd out of 42 teams at the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship.
Home Opener: Saturday, Sept. 9, St. John Fisher College Invite held at Timber Banks/Beaver Meadows in Phoenix, New York
With a team of four, Fisher’s 2016 women’s golf team was able to close their season with a 6th place finish at the Ithaca College Invitational. Additionally, Megan Bleck was honored with a fall 2016 Empire 8 Academic Award.

Men and Women’s Rowing
Heading into its seventh season, the rowing program continue to make strides as the men’s and women’s teams regularly competes in some of the top regattas in the nation. Last season, the Cardinals had their strongest showing yet at the Liberty League Championships and with a solid recruiting class, expectations are high in 2017-18.
