A Message from President Gerard J. Rooney

December 7, 2016

It is hard to believe that the fall semester is already coming to an end. It has certainly been a busy time on campus between academic and co-curricular activities that have filled up each week. Our students’ dedication to making the most of their Fisher experience continues to impress me.

It is hard to believe that the fall semester is already coming to an end.  It has certainly been a busy time on campus between academic and co-curricular activities that have filled up each week.  Our students’ dedication to making the most of their Fisher experience continues to impress me.

This fall, we officially broke ground on the Hermance Family Chapel of St. Basil the Great.  The Chapel will realize the vision of our founding Basilian Fathers, and will be adjacent to Kearney Hall.  It will be open in time for the start of the 2017-2018 academic year.

The College once again ranked on U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” list, ranking 146 among the top 200 in the National Universities category.  Additionally, we were recognized by Forbes.com as one of “America’s Top Colleges,” and most recently, named to the 2017 Military Friendly® Schools List.  Fisher has also been named to the 2015 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, which recognizes the nation’s leading colleges and universities for their commitment to bettering their communities through community service and service-learning.  Our inclusion on these lists is further recognition of the student-centered educational environment our faculty and staff provide Fisher students.

We have had another winning athletics season with our field hockey and men’s soccer each earning their respective Empire 8 Championships.  For the 14th consecutive season, the football program earned a bid in the postseason.  In addition, the College’s drama club, Fisher Players, broke their attendance record for their fall production of “Grease.”  Cleary Auditorium was full for each performance, all of which were outstanding.  Our students continually place equal emphasis on their academics as they do on their sport or extracurricular activity, which makes us all proud.

This week is our last week of classes before starting finals week. I would encourage you to be sure your student knows about the many Stress Free Week activities that are taking place, and urge them to attend if they are in need of a break.

I hope that you and your loved ones enjoy a happy and healthy holiday season and a great start to your 2017.  Thank you, as always, for your belief in St. John Fisher College and for your continuing support.  Please let me know if there is anything that my office can do to be of assistance to you.
