Fisher Selected to Host Pair of NCAA Championships

The NCAA National Office released its host site selections for a majority of its upcoming championships on Wednesday afternoon with St. John Fisher College earning the right to serve as the host institution for two of the association’s largest postseason events.

Fisher, in conjunction with the Rochester Sports Commission, will host the 2023 Division III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship inside the Polisseni Track and Field Complex and will also welcome teams from across the country for the 2025 Division III Men’s Golf Championship.

“We are so pleased to have an opportunity to showcase our world-class facilities on such a large stage,” said Bob Ward, who has served as Fisher’s director of athletics since 1987.  “Our track and field programs along with our men’s golf team are among the very best in Division III and I’m looking forward to seeing them potentially compete in their home venues."

The NCAA received more than 3,000 bid submissions from NCAA member schools, conferences, sports commissions, and cities vying to host predetermined rounds for 86 of the NCAA’s 90 championships. The sites were selected by the respective NCAA sports committees and approved by the divisional competition oversight and championships committees.

The announcement marks the second time Fisher has been chosen as the host site for each event. The College was scheduled to host the Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2020, which was canceled due to the pandemic.  The Cardinals, under the direction of head coach Mike Henchen, have qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship in each of the last six seasons and Mark VanMarter, Peter Girardi and Kyle Rollins each earned an Individual National Championship.  As a team, the Cardinals have garnered 21 All-America finishes in all and have finished tied for seventh in each of the last two Outdoor Championships. 

Fisher previously hosted the Division III Men’s Golf Championship in 2016 at Midvale Country Club where the Cardinals claimed a 10th place finish in the team standings.  In all, Fisher, led by head coach Bob Simms, has 12 NCAA appearances under its belt including eight consecutive trips.  In 2008, the team finished third overall with Scott Harris, Jr. winning the Individual National Championship in the process.  Overall, Fisher has finished inside the top 10 on five occasions and has had 16 All-America selections.

The championship, which is four rounds, will be played at Irondequoit Country Club and Midvale Country Club with the latter hosting the final two rounds of play.
