Sport Management Students Compete in Case Competition

November 3, 2017

On Friday, Oct. 27, the St. John Fisher College Sport Management Department hosted the Second Annual Analytics Case Challenge, bringing together students from multiple disciplines to engage in a practical application of sport statistics and analytics.

Students presented their approach to team management during the Second Annual Analytics Case Challenge, hosted by the Sport Management Department.

Students were challenged with making roster upgrades to an assigned NFL franchise with the goal of making the playoffs. By applying advanced statistics and incorporating knowledge of the NFL’s salary cap system, students were responsible for making decisions affecting the short-term and long-term success of the organization.

The contest included a poster session followed by a presentation to judges from Fisher, Sports Info Solutions, and the Buffalo Bills. The winning team was the New York Jets under the guidance of Matt Crowley (sport management), Eddy Tabone (statistics), and Rob Weber (statistics).
