Markwick's practice is in family medicine, with a special interest in the underserved population. She is also involved in telemedicine and its use in primary care. Her doctoral work involved a program that instructed staff how to use nonpharmacological methods for behavior management of elderly schizophrenic patients. As a nurse, she has worked a variety of fields, such as Med/Surg, ICU, Utilization Review, Travel Nursing, Administration, and Home Care/Home Infusion Therapy.
Markwick was recently elected as president of the Board of Directors for the Monroe County Health Department. She has been a member of the board for the past two years, where she served as a nurse representative for the Genesee Valley Nurses Association. She will serve a one-year term as president, working with members of the Health Department’s administration to set and facilitate meetings, among other duties.
In addition to her position on the Health Department board, Markwick served as past-president for the Genesee Valley Nurses Association and treasurer of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Greater Rochester, as well as roles with several other professional organizations. She is an inaugural participant of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Future Leaders Training program, which has been a yearlong training program in leadership. The program culminates in September when participants present their projects to the AANP Board of Directors.
