Political Science Internships and Activities
Experience political and administrative processes firsthand. Internship opportunities within the program exist at the local, state, and national levels.
As a political science major, you may qualify to participate in the semester-long internship Washington Program, in conjunction with SUNY Brockport. This premier internship program offers students a guided intensive work and academic experience in the offices of key participants in the national policy-making process—executive, legislative, judicial, political parties, or select interest groups.
Participants in the Washington Program have interned with:
- The United States Supreme Court
- The legislative offices of senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand
- Amnesty International
- The Truman National Security Project
- The Environmental Protection Agency
- The Department of Justice
You also may participate in the New York State Assembly or Senate internship programs, where you earn a small stipend in addition to class credit while working and studying in Albany. If you prefer an internship experience closer to home, the College can connect you to several program-appropriate opportunities in the Rochester area as well. Local and regional intern placements include the United Nations Association of Rochester, Refugee Resettlement Services, and the Rochester and Syracuse mayors' offices.
As a political science major, you may be eligible for induction into the College's chapter of Psi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. Activities of the chapter have included sponsorship of debates, community forums, and voter registration drives.
Fisher's Political Science Club is open to all students with an interest in politics and political science. The Club sponsors an annual trip to Washington, D.C., a variety of speakers, and campus-wide discussions of political topics.
