Media Management Internships and Activities
The demand for Fisher interns regularly outstrips the number of students who participate in the internship program each semester, giving you a wide array of quality positions to choose from. Although major Rochester media organizations routinely sponsor Fisher students, you also may opt to compete for an internship at a national media outlet. You can also combine study abroad with an internship.
As a media management intern, you can work at public relations and marketing firms, Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, network and public television stations, production houses, and web design companies.
Outside of the classroom, you'll find opportunities to build your skills with a wide range of extracurricular and co-curricular activities.
Cardinal Television offers the opportunity to produce shows for our cable station. You may pursue an on-air role, or elect to take on behind-the-scenes responsibilities, including producer, director, floor manager, writer, editor, and control room operator. Programming can be viewed in homes throughout the Rochester area on public access cable. Shows are also posted to our LiveStream and YouTube channels. Expect to receive three credits for one semester if you are the primary producer of a CTV show.
The Cardinal Courier offers you the opportunity to work as a professional journalist. Positions with the College’s online newspaper and monthly magazine focus on writing, social media, photography, and video. This campus publication has been recognized for excellence with several awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and the New York Press Association. Students may receive three credits for one semester of work on Cardinal Media. Editors also are eligible to receive an additional credit per semester over the course of three semesters.
If you are interested in public relations, advertising, and marketing, you may opt to join PRIMA, Fisher's student-run integrated public relations firm. PRIMA students provide a full range of public relations offerings including campaign planning, marketing research, advertising, and creative development. Clients include Rochester-area nonprofits, small businesses, and government agencies. Account executives, strategists, writers, photographers, social media experts, designers, and analysts are needed. You may receive credit for three semesters of work on PRIMA (1 credit each semester).
The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) gives students the opportunity to learn more about the PR profession through networking and professional development. Gain access to regional and national conferences, where you can learn about the latest innovations in the field and begin building your network of contacts.
