Interactive Media Internships and Activities
The demand for Fisher interns regularly outstrips the number of students who participate in the internship program each semester, giving you a wide array of quality positions to choose from. Although major Rochester media organizations routinely sponsor Fisher students, you also may opt to compete for an internship at a national media outlet. The possibility exists also to combine study abroad with a media and communication internship.
As a media and communication intern, you can work at public relations and marketing firms, Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, network and public television stations, production houses, and companies specializing in web design and video game production.
No matter where your media interests lie, you’ll find several ways to participate in and contribute to Fisher’s student-run media and communication outlets.
Cardinal Television offers the opportunity to produce shows for our cable station. You may pursue an on-air role, or elect to take on behind-the-scenes responsibilities, including producer, director, floor manager, writer, editor, and control room operator. Programming can be viewed in homes throughout the Rochester area on public access cable. Shows are also posted to our LiveStream and YouTube channels. You may receive three credits for one semester if you are the primary producer of a CTV show.
The Cardinal Courier offers you the opportunity to work as a professional journalist. Positions with the College’s online newspaper and monthly magazine focus on writing, social media, photography, and video. This campus publication has been recognized for excellence with several awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and the New York Press Association. You may receive credit for work on Cardinal Media—three semesters as a staff member and three semesters as an editor (1 credit each semester).
If you are interested in public relations, advertising, and marketing, you may opt to join PRIMA, Fisher's student-run firm. Clients include Rochester-area non-profits, small businesses, and government agencies. Account executives, strategists, writers, photographers, social media experts, designers, and analysts are needed. You may receive credit for three semesters of work on PRIMA (1 credit each semester).
As an interactive media student, you might choose to participate in specialized study abroad programs that include filmmaking in Prague, interactive media production in Ireland, and marketing and public relations study in Italy. Once you are in the program, you also may decide to take advantage of the College’s Washington Semester, or conduct work/study in the heart of the entertainment industry through Fisher’s affiliation with Syracuse University and its semester in Los Angeles.
