M.S. in Educational Leadership Application Process

The educational leadership programs operate on a rolling admissions basis. Applications are reviewed as they are received.

General Application Requirements

  • Completed online application
    Note: Please submit the online application before any other supplemental documents (transcripts, resumes, references, etc.) are submitted.
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work (if applicable)*
  • Two recommendation forms which can be submitted online (refer to the online application for instructions)
  • Current résumé
  • Professional/career goals statement
  • Results of the TOEFL (if native language is not English)
  • Contact graduate admissions or the graduate program chair regarding the process to request graduate transfer credit

*When requesting transcripts from your previous schools, always follow the electronic PDF delivery method directly to St. John Fisher College. We are in-network participants in most electronic transcript delivery exchange portals and this allows us to receive transcripts automatically without the need to submit them through a third party (as in the use of an email) or through the mail itself. This will save you money and time.

Program-Specific Application Requirements


Note Regarding Test Site Closures: Due to current conditions and some testing site closures, please contact the admissions office at grad@sjfc.edu or (585) 385-8064 regarding flexibility options for submitting test scores after acceptance to the program.


  • A copy of New York state teaching certification OR proof of pending certification is required for students just completing their undergraduate studies.
  • To comply with New York state regulations, applicants to graduate-level teacher professional certification programs who do not have a master's degree must provide St. John Fisher College with scores from either of the following:
    • Miller Analogies Test (MAT)*
    • Graduate Record Examination (GRE)*
    • Note: Applicants who already have a master's degree are exempt from submitting test scores.
  • Applicants must have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 for baccalaureate degrees from approved postsecondary institutions.

*Test scores are valid on these exams for five years. Please contact the Office of Transfer and Graduate Admissions at grad@sjfc.edu or (585) 385-8064 to inquire about minimum scores required on these exams.

School Building Leader Program

  • The applicant must hold a New York state teaching certificate (professional or permanent) and have at least a year and a half of teaching experience before admission to the program.
  • Both of the recommendations must be from certified school administrators familiar with the applicant's potential to be successful as an educational leader.
  • At the discretion of the program Admissions Committee, an applicant may be required to come to campus for a personal interview and provide an on-demand writing sample.

School Building Leader and School District Leader Program

  • The applicant must hold a New York state teaching certificate (professional or permanent) and have at least a year and a half of teaching experience before admission to the program.
  • Applicants for the School Building Leader/School District Leader program must have a minimum of thirty (30) credits of a master’s degree program from an accredited higher educational institution in an area that leads to permanent professional teacher or pupil personnel services certification.
  • Both of the recommendations must be from certified school administrators familiar with the applicant's potential to be successful as an educational leader.
  • At the discretion of the program Admissions Committee, an applicant may be required to come to campus for a personal interview and provide an on-demand writing sample.
