7th Grade Math Teacher, Integrated Arts and Technology High School
Four years after walking the halls as a high school senior, Cara Accorso found herself back at her alma mater as a Fisher student teacher where she had the opportunity to work with her ninth grade algebra teacher. And it was her placement in the Rochester City School District where she solidified her teaching path.
Right after graduation, she was hired as a seventh and eighth grade math teacher at School No. 16 and School No. 19, going back and forth between the two schools. For the 2014-15 school year, she taught seventh grade math at the Integrated Arts and Technology High School in Rochester.
"My Fisher education taught me a work ethic I'll never lose and gave me the confidence to become a teacher that others respect. It gave me the stepping stone to be a math teacher. Now, time, experience, patience, caring, and lots of learning will make me a great math teacher."
Erin Carey '15
High School English Teacher, James Monroe High School
Since graduating Fisher with an ambitious triple degree in English, French, and adolescent inclusive education, Erin Carey now finds herself as a high school English teacher at James Monroe High School in the Rochester Central School District. After being involved with experiential learning opportunities at Fisher, she is thankful for how well Fisher prepared her for the professional world.
Erin started working with both urban and suburban schools in just her third semester at Fisher. In one of her classes, she spent time at School #58 and brought in iPads and hosted an after-school literacy program. She also had a 14-week student teaching experience where she was able to form relationships with her co-workers and participate in overnight field trips to Camp Cory and Ohio. She was then hired by the school she student taught at for the remainder of the year, and was thrilled to be able to stay with her students through prom and graduation.

Everyone from professors, to the Lackman dining staff, facilities, and Safety and Security all go out of their way on a daily basis to put students first. They are accommodating and supportive, and go above and beyond the typical classroom experience."
Brendan Hamilton '14
6th Grade Teacher, Tomlinson Middle School
Dover Plains, NY, native Brendan Hamilton's life drastically changed about one month after graduating from Fisher when he learned he landed a teaching job at Tomlinson Middle School in Fairfield, Connecticut. He had just unpacked his life from college, and had to gear up to pack for another move.
While at Fisher, he was a student teacher at two Rochester City Schools teaching 1st, 4th, and 5th grades, preparing him well for his job as a 6th grade teacher. He said his student teaching experiences were all very different, which allowed him to become a more versatile educator who was able to implement teaching strategies to suit his students' individual strengths and needs.
"Fisher sets its students up for success. The faculty and staff motivate and support their students to ensure that everyone can succeed in their courses as well as during their fieldwork placements. Students who study in Fisher's School of Education will not only receive top of the line instruction on campus, but will also be given various opportunities to go out in the Rochester community."
Matt Lukasiewicz '11
Artist Manager, The Exchange
Since leaving Fisher, Matt Lukasiewicz has traveled the globe, literally. The 2011 graduate is the artist manager for a pop band called The Exchange, and he primarily manages the band's tour logistics. It's his job to make sure the band and crew have an organized travel plan, accommodations, and transportation to performance venues and hotels. He also oversees venue preparation before a show. He has traveled with the band to Germany, Australia, Asia, and most recently Europe for a 32-city tour with the Backstreet Boys. When he's not executing tour schedules and details, he wears his songwriter hat, and has collaborated with producers and writers from Universal Asia, Warner Music Group, and members of the band.
"My four years at Fisher certainly played a vital role in preparing me for my career. No school, Fisher included, can teach or totally prepare you for absolutely everything out in the 'real world'. What Fisher did, however, was equip me with the mental tools and toughness to adapt to challenges thrown at me."
Rob Meacham '14
Account Executive, Dixon Schwabl
When Rob Meacham was in the homestretch of his internship at Dixon Schwabl, the company offered him a part-time account coordinator position that led to a full-time job the Monday following his graduation. He said his internship was an enlightening, challenging, and fun experience that pushed him outside of his comfort zone, and ultimately, paid off.
While at Fisher, the media and communication major was very involved in the PRIMA Group, the student-run advertising/marketing/PR agency, serving as one of the managing partners in addition to vice president of organizational development. The group took on clients from the local business community and were given the opportunity to develop real-world solutions to their real-world marketing problems. He was also a student leader in the College's chapter of the American Marketing Association, where he had countless opportunities to practice what he was learning in the classroom.
"I'm extremely grateful Fisher supports experiential learning opportunities such as The PRIMA Group and can only hope they continue to flourish in the future. Just as nursing students are required to complete clinicals, I can't stress how important and beneficial it was for me to work in an agency setting nearly identical to where I currently work."
Gwen Olton '12
Coordinated Care Services, Inc.
Gwendolyn Olton landed her first job before walking across the stage, thanks to her clinical rotation experiences at Rochester General Hospital, St. Mary's, and the New York State Department of Health. She was also able to show valuable global experience from her undergraduate education, as she traveled with her professors and peers to Kenya in 2012 where she worked in makeshift clinics for underserved communities.
She started as a nurse coordinator for Residential Treatment Facilities at Hillside Children's Center and also worked as a care coordinator for Bay Creek Medical Group before joining Coordinated Care Services, inc. She said the Wegmans School of Nursing prepared her for the challenges of complex care management.
"I'm so happy I chose Fisher for a nursing degree. The professors are amazing educators with a passion for what they do. The clinical experiences were relevant and eye-opening, and the classes were engaging. It's an amazing program."
Brandon Rosenthal '10
Assistant Coach, Northern Arizona Suns (NBA D-League)
As a sport management graduate, Brandon Rosenthal learned very quickly about the power of relationships with people. He said thanks to relationships with his classmates, his basketball teammates, his professors, and people he met outside of Fisher, he was able to grow both personally and professionally.
After graduating from Fisher, Brandon went on to graduate school at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, part of his plan all along.
Today, he is the assistant coach for the Northern Arizona Suns. Previously, he served as the director of basketball operations with the Santa Clara University men’s team, an NCAA Division I program.
Brandon said he truly believes Fisher helped him prepare in the areas that were vital to his success in the business and collegiate world of sport.
"To me, the greatest advantage I had in going to Fisher was opportunity. Fisher does an amazing job in fostering relationships and providing students with opportunity both on and off campus. There is not a price tag you can put on the value of a Fisher education."
