2019 Feminist-Pragmatist Colloquium

The 2019 Feminist-Pragmatist Philosophy Colloquium, November 14-17 at St. John Fisher College, is a four-day conference featuring lectures and excursions to historic sites in Western New York.

Date: November 14, 2019 - November 17, 2019
Time: All Day Event
Location: St. John Fisher College Campus

2020 will be a historical year, marking the 200th birthday of Susan B. Anthony, the 202nd birthday of Frederick Douglass, and the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Rochester, New York, was the home for both Anthony and Douglass and Seneca Falls (driving distance from Rochester) hosted the first Women’s Rights Convention. In addition, Rochester and Seneca Falls are also within the traditional Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) territory, which is not only the oldest living participatory democracy, but also a confederacy that was matrilineal and inspired first-wave feminism. The 2019 Feminist-Pragmatist Philosophy Colloquium will honor this rich history and these various traditions.

Talks will explore, challenge, deepen, or consider further topics, theories, and theorists related to social justice, women rights, civil rights, Indigenous rights, oppression, and/or related topics. Though primarily a philosophy conference, scholars, students, community leaders, or activists from all disciplines are welcome.

CONFERENCE FORMAT: Mix of traditional presentations, poster sessions, Scholar Circle (writing workshop), and traveling/touring elements.
