The Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics will host the 2019 Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Seaway Section spring conference. The MAA is the world's largest community of mathematicians, striving to advance the understanding of mathematics and its impact on our world. The Seaway Section is a regional arm of the MAA, comprising upstate New York, most of Ontario, and all of Quebec.

The conference will draw over 200 mathematicians from across the region, including many undergraduate students from regional campuses. There will be plenary speakers, contributed talks, representatives from business and industry, student games, and much more.

The conference will start on Friday, April 5, with a banquet dinner. Following dinner will be a presentation by noted mathematician Rebekah Yates of Houghton College. At the end of the evening, a game for undergraduate students will round out the day's activities.

On Saturday, April 6, the day will begin with two invited addresses. Following those is the "B.I.G. event" featuring math representatives from Business, Industry, and Government. Our guests will talk about their careers, offer advice, help students (and faculty!) with how to write resumes and conduct interviews, and much more. There will also be breakout sessions, a photo contest, and more. The day will end with a closing address by David Richeson of Dickinson College.

Fisher students will play a prominent role in the hosting of the conference, extending their hospitality to the international mathematical community. With dozens of presentations, food, games, contests, and more, the experience will not only be memorable, but also one in which the students will look back to long after graduation. Alumni and friends are invited to attend and participate.

Pre-registration is available at the website https://www.sjfc.edu/conferences/seaway/. Register by March 15 in order to sign up for the banquet and lunch. Registration is also available after that date, including at the door, but one cannot register for the banquet or Saturday lunch at that point.
