Date: November 18, 2020 - November 18, 2020

Philosophy Day is supported by the St. John Fisher College Department of Philosophy and Classical Studies, the Office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, the William and Helen Cavanaugh Chair of Catholic Studies, and the Office of Institutional Advancement

Philosophy Day, sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Culture Organization (UNESCO), and held on the purported birthday of Socrates, is observed throughout the world as an occasion for people to reflect upon the importance of critical thinking, world peace, international cooperation, and the love of wisdom.

Fisher is the only college in the United States to participate in Philosophy Day every year since UNESCO inaugurated it in 2003. It will be celebrated by colleges and universities in over 30 other countries as well.

This year's theme is “Fratelli Tutti: On Fraternity and Social Friendship,” an examination of Pope Francis's third encyclical which was issued this past month. The presenters are Father William Graf, chair of the Department of Religious Studies, and Dr. Tim Madigan, chair of the Department of Philosophy and Classical Studies. The moderator will be Dr. Ann Marie Fallon, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.

The session will be available via Zoom at https://sjfc.zoom.us/j/98844155978.
