The Field of HRD M.S. in OL/HRD

The field of HRD consists of numerous functions operating in most organizations today. Each function has its own distinct purpose and fits into one of three categories: Human Resource Administration (HRA), Human Resource Management (HRM), or Human Resource Development (HRD). HRA focuses on HR research and information systems, union/labor relations, employee assistance, and compensation and benefits. HRM functions include organization/job design, human resource planning, performance management systems, and selection and staffing.

HRD should not be confused with HRA or HRM. HRD is the integrated use of training and development, organization development, and career development to improve individual, group, and organizational effectiveness. Through integration, HRD combines the use of all developmental practices in order to accomplish higher levels of individual and organizational effectiveness than would be possible with narrower approaches.
