2012 Countdown to Commencement Video Series
We are proud to launch the second annual "Countdown to Commencement" video series! Last fall, we asked faculty and staff to nominate hard-working seniors who were involved in our campus community, and who have left an impression throughout their time here.
And just like last year, we were flooded with nominations, and have chosen 14 outstanding seniors whose videos will debut weekly between now and Commencement on the College’s YouTube channel.
To kick-off the 2012 series, meet Emily Witty, a Business Management major. She was nominated by Tara Preteroti from the Higher Education Opportunities Office (HEOP), and Sally Vaughan, Director of Community Service.
During her time at Fisher, Witty has been an active member of Students With A Vision (SWAV), serving as treasurer for one year and president for the last two years. She oversees a 13-member student board, as well as weekly service activities. She has also served as a HEOP recruiter, peer advisor, and work-study student. Additionally, she has participated in intramural sports, was a member of the Yearbook Club staff, and has lead several services initiatives both on- and off-campus. This spring, she will travel with Fisher to the Jamaican Advantage Thru Sports for Youth (JASY) day camp to serve economically disadvantaged youth from Kingston, Jamaica.
Preteroti said she first met Witty before her freshmen year, when she participated in the HEOP Summer Institute. She says since that time, she has “had the pleasure of seeing Emily develop from a reserved young student to the outstanding young woman she is today.”
Vaughan says that Witty has made a substantial impact on the campus community by bringing “service back to Fisher.” She says Witty’s “service fever” is contagious, and that she has built a committee of committed leaders, thanks to her positive attitude and role model behavior.
The prediction? She will have a wonderful career in marketing. Vaughan says she will be “knocking them dead” with her ideas and risk-taking. And both Preteroti and Vaughan say they don’t see Witty’s volunteerism slowing down anytime soon either.
Meet this week’s featured senior, Emily Witty! From everyone in the Fisher family, enjoy this last semester, and good luck to you!
