Spring 2013 - 59th Commencement Ceremony

St. John Fisher College held its 59th Commencement on Saturday, May 11, welcoming over 1,100 graduates into the alumni family. David McCullough, Pulitzer-prize-winning author and historian, delivered an inspiring keynote speech to the graduates, encouraging them to read, write, and continue learning. McCullough addressed the graduates after accepting an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from Dr. Donald Bain, President.

Michael Goonan ’75, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), and Chair, St. John Fisher College Board of Trustees, also received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws.

During the College’s ceremonies, Dr. Bain honored two individuals with President's Medals. Sister Christine Wagner, SSJ, Ph.D., Executive Director of the St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Center, received the President's Medal for Service to the Rochester Community, and Mr. Walter Parkes, Chairman of the Board, O’Connell Electric, received the President's Medal for Service to St. John Fisher College and the Rochester Community.

Spring 2012 - 58th Commencement Ceremony

St. John Fisher College held its 58th Commencement on Saturday, May 5, welcoming over 1,100 graduates into the alumni family. During the two ceremonies—one for baccalaureate students and the other for master's and doctoral students—Dr. Donald Bain, President, awarded an honorary degree and also honored two individuals with President's Medals.

In the morning ceremony, the honorary Doctor of Laws degree was presented to world-renown historian and author, Doris Kearns Goodwin. The recipient of the President's Medal for Service to the Rochester Community was David H. Klein, CEO of The Lifetime Healthcare Companies, the parent company of Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.

In the afternoon ceremony, the President's Medal for Service to St. John Fisher College and the Rochester Community was presented to Dr. Frederic Skalny.

Spring 2011 - 57th Commencement Ceremony

St. John Fisher College graduated over 750 undergraduate and over 350 graduate students at its 57th Commencement on Saturday, May 7, 2011. The College bestowed an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws upon Martin Mucci '81, President and CEO, Paychex, Inc. and Chair, St. John Fisher College Board of Trustees.

Recipients of the President's Medal for Service to St. John Fisher College and the Rochester Community included: Howard J. Berman, retired President and CEO, Lifetime Healthcare Companies; Edward J. Lynd '56, Retired Senior Vice President, Columbia Banking; and the Rev. John A. Poluikis, C.S.B., Professor Emeritus, Mathematics, St. John Fisher College. And the recipient of the President's Medal for Service to the Rochester Community was R. Carlos Carballada, Commissioner, Department of Neighborhood and Business Development, City of Rochester.

Spring 2010 - 56th Commencement Ceremony

On Saturday, May 8, St. John Fisher College graduated approximately 750 undergraduate and 350 graduate students at its 56th Commencement. Due to the large number of graduates, there were two ceremonies, one at 9:30 a.m. for undergraduates, and the second at 2 p.m. for master's and doctoral students. Both ceremonies took place at the Blue Cross Arena in downtown Rochester.

Paul H. Hewitt '85, Head Basketball Coach at Georgia Institute of Technology, received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws and gave the commencement speech at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony. At Fisher, Hewitt earned his bachelor's degree in communication/journalism and economics. On the court, he was a four-year letter winner and served as the Cardinals' captain in his senior year. In his ten seasons at Georgia Tech, Hewitt has taken the team to the NCAA Tournament five times, once, in 2004, leading the team to a runner-up finish in the championship game.


Spring 2009 - 55th Commencement Ceremony

At our 55th Commencement on Saturday, May 9, the College graduated more than 800 undergraduate, nearly 230 graduate students, and four doctoral students. For the fourth consecutive year, the ceremony took place at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.

Lauren Green, the chief religion correspondent for FOX News Channel, received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from the College and served as the commencement speaker. An additional honorary degree was conferred upon the Most Reverend Ricardo Ramírez, C.S.B., D.D., Bishop of Las Cruces, New Mexico.


Spring 2008 - 54th Commencement Ceremony

St. John Fisher College graduated more than 750 undergraduate and nearly 300 graduate students at its 54th Commencement on Saturday, May 10, 2008. Due to the large number of graduates, the ceremony, which included both graduate and undergraduate students, took place at the Blue Cross Arena. Juan Williams, national political correspondent and author, received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from the College and was be the commencement speaker. An additional honorary degree was conferred upon José J. Coronas, General Partner, Trillium Group, and Chair of the St. John Fisher College Board of Trustees.
