The mission of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is to:
- provide a strong, integrated foundation in the basic pharmaceutical sciences, including pharmaceutics, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, biopharmaceutics, and pharmacokinetics
- to contribute to the pursuit of knowledge in the pharmaceutical sciences and related fields
- to make meaningful contributions to the profession, the School, the College, the scientific community, and the public
Current projects within the department and in collaboration with other departments include:
- the study of dissolution characteristics of semi-solid dosage forms (gels, creams, ointments)
- computational analysis of structure-property relationships (QSAR, QSPR, COMFA)
- drug receptor-mediated cell signalling and physiological regulatory mechanisms
- pharmacodynamic modeling and its use in rational drug therapy
- crystalline polymorphism and its effects on formulation characteristics
