Fisher to Offer Unique Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program
The Wegmans School of Pharmacy and Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education are collaborating to offer a Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program. Dr. Jeff Liles of the School of Education, along with Drs. Asim Abu-Baker, Lisa Avery, and Kate Juba of the School of Pharmacy have teamed up to develop a program designed to train pharmacists as educators using a “theory to practice” approach, where pharmacists are submerged in learning theory while learning to apply it to clinical practice.
This program will be offered starting in July 2012 to pharmacists in residency training programs from institutions such as Highland Hospital, Strong Memorial Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. Teaching certificate programs are often offered as part of pharmacy residency training; however, a collaboration such as this between a school of education and a school of pharmacy makes this program unique and progressive on a national level.
