Recent Graduate Receives Exceptional Volunteer Award
Chad Monheim, a recent graduate of St. John Fisher College, was an integral part of the football team's run to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division III Championship this past fall. Being one of the nation's top field goal kickers and making three clutch field goals against an undefeated team pales in comparison to what he is doing now.
At the soon-to-be completed new home for Daystar in Pittsford, Monheim, a Webster resident, will present Daystar for Medically Fragile Infants with a check for $10,000 from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation. The organization is New York State's first and only nursing supervised medical daycare for children from birth to age five designed to serve families whose children require care above and beyond the capabilities of traditional daycare.
Monheim is one of 26 Northwestern Mutual financial professionals being recognized nationally as an exceptional volunteer.
“Helping even one person can strengthen a community. Chad and our other exceptional volunteers have helped hundreds,” said Northwestern Mutual Foundation president John Kordsmeier. “We're excited to see Daystar for Medically Fragile Infants and Chad continue their essential work.”
For the past four years, Monheim, who has a brother with developmental disabilities, has been at the forefront of volunteering for Daystar - from organizing an office supply drive, movie fundraisers, football games and more. The grant money will be utilized to help fund the construction of the new facility, which will expand care for 30 full-time medically fragile children from the greater Rochester area.
“I am honored to present Daystar for Medically Fragile Children with such a generous donation on behalf of the Northwestern Mutual Foundation,” Monheim stated. “This donation will assist Daystar in their expansion and aid them in their mission to provide care for an increasing number of fragile but wonderful children,” he added.
Since Northwestern Mutual started the Community Service Award program in 1995, the company has donated more than $3 million on its representatives' behalf to over 300 nonprofit organizations across the country. The Community Service Award program is open to more than 9,000 Northwestern Mutual financial representatives, assistant financial representatives and financial representative interns, recognizing their individual dedication to charitable organizations and philanthropic projects.
