Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Named

06/22/2012

St. John Fisher College has named Mike Henchen the head coach of the men's and women's indoor/outdoor track and field teams as well as its men's and women's cross country teams. Henchen served as the teams' interim head coach in 2011, which was the first year in all of the programs' histories. Also receiving a promotion is Kristine Wolcott, who served as an assistant to Henchen in 2011, and will now be the teams' full-time associate head coach.

Both served pivotal roles in the upstart programs, with Henchen leading the cross country teams to fourth and fifth place finishes at the Empire 8 Conference Championships, including the top individual competitor on the men's side.

Henchen and Wolcott both led the track and field teams to successful seasons, including helping three student-athletes earn Empire 8 Conference honors.

Henchen is a two-time Section V Class C Track Coach of the Year for boy's track and field at Geneseo High School. From 2006 to 2010, Henchen's team won six Livingston County titles and the 2010 and 2011 Sectional titles. In his five years as head coach, Henchen coached over 20 individual Sectional champions, four state medalists, and one national All-American.

During his tenure both as the assistant coach and as the head coach for Geneseo boys and girls cross country, the teams captured a combined 13 league and 12 Sectional championships. Both teams won the first ever state titles for Geneseo with the girls’ team clinching the State Championship in 2007 and the boys’ team winning its first State Championship in 2010. Henchen was named the 2010 Section V Class D Coach of the Year in both sports.

Wolcott has previously coached at Irondequoit High School where she served as the sprinting coach for both the men's and women's outdoor teams. In her time with Irondequoit, the Eagles won New York State Championships in the pentathlon and high jump.
