Buffalo/Niagara Alumni Chapter Recognizes Members’ Accomplishments


Three alumni were recognized for their accomplishments at the Fifth Annual Buffalo/Niagara Alumni Chapter Dinner on November 1 at the Buffalo Yacht Club. Dr. Michael Cinquino ’71 received the Outstanding Alumnus Award, Dr. Paul Kostyniak ’70 was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award went to Brian Langenfeld, Esq., ’02.

Cinquino is Senior Vice President and Director of the Panamerican Consultants, Inc. Buffalo Branch. After graduating from Fisher, he went on to receive a master of arts and Ph.D. in anthropology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He has also worked for Ecology and Environment, Inc., the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Puerto Rico State Historic Preservation Office, and Ebasco Environmental.

While at Panamerican, he served as project director and/or principal investigator on over 600 cultural resources projects throughout New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the eastern United States. These projects included natural gas pipelines, fiber optic lines, developments, transportation projects, flood control projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, light rail rapid transit systems, industrial parks, wastewater treatment plants, fuel storage projects, interceptor sewers, a demolition project, construction monitoring, and various activities at U.S. military installations.  In addition, he has prepared numerous cultural resource sections for environmental assessment, impact statements, environmental resource documents, cultural resource management plans, and environmental audits.

He has over 30 years of experience as an anthropologist/archaeologist with expertise in cultural anthropology, prehistoric and historic archaeology, archival and historic research, cultural resource management, and historic preservation.  Cinquino has published in dozens of industry journals and publications.

Kostyniak is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and Director of the Toxicology Research Center at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He earned his Ph.D. in toxicology at the University of Rochester after graduating from Fisher, and has worked in higher education ever since. Kostyniak also taught at the University of Rochester, and has been at SUNY Buffalo since 1977.

He is a member of the American Association for Advancement of Science, the American Chemical Society, the Bio/Environmental Polymer Society, the New York Academy of Sciences, the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, Society of Toxicology, the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics, the Niagara Frontier Association of Research Directors, and the Air Quality Sciences Sensory Toxicity Testing Advisory Panel, among others. He has been an invited speaker and panelist for countless national and international conferences and events, and has also had work published in several industry journals and publications. In addition, Kostyniak has secured two patents and has several others pending.

An involved member in the Buffalo/Niagara community, Kostyniak currently serves on the Our Lady of Black Rock Regional School Board, and has served on a variety of other boards. He is also a member of the St. John Fisher College Recruitment Committee.

Langenfeld, the Outstanding Young Alumnus recipient, is an Assistant District Attorney in the Felony Trial Bureau for the Erie County District Attorney's Office. He earned his JD from the University at Buffalo Law School. During law school, he worked with the Monroe County Executive’s Office, Congressman Tom Reynolds, New York State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt, and Judge Samuel Green from the New York Appellate Division.

Langenfeld has served as President of the Les Amis Fencing Club, and Advisor to the Infant of Prague Youth Group. Currently, he is a member of the Canisius High School Alumni Board of Directors, and President of the Buffalo/Niagara Chapter of the College’s Alumni Association.

The Buffalo/Niagara Alumni Chapter of St. John Fisher College was formally established in the fall of 2007 to provide opportunities for alumni who are working and living in Western New York to create mutually beneficial support networks and participate in the continuing growth and development of the College.
