Club Column

Club Column

This week’s Club Column features the new Young Voters Club and Accounting Club.

Young Voters Club

Q: What exactly does the Young Voters Club do? When was it formed? How many members do you have?

A: Young Voters Club promotes voter registration and political awareness. The Club was formally known as the Young Republicans Club. With the absence of the Young Democrats Club and the fact that very few Fisher students were registered to vote or aware of politics, members of the Republicans Club decided to form a more inclusive club. There are ten members, and as of this semester, many freshmen have joined.

Q: How often does the Young Voters Club meet as a group?

A: The Club meets biweekly at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights. Generally, the meetings are spent debating different issues.

Q: What are some of the upcoming events tied to this year's presidential election?

A: The Club is hosting a voter registration drive on October 2, and a presidential debate night party on October 3, working in collaboration with the Political Science Club.

Q: Where will the Club be on election day?

A: Hosting an election night party, as well as reminding people to vote.

Q: What are some initiatives the Club hopes to work on this academic year?

A: Raising awareness of the political candidates and encouraging students to vote.

Q: How can people contact the Club for more information?

A: By contacting the president, Jessica Bates, via email or by attending meetings.

Accounting Club

Q: What exactly does the Accounting Club do? How many members are there?

A: The Accounting Club meets one or two times a month and receives presentations delivered by established individuals within the accounting field, including Fisher alumni.  This proves to be a great networking opportunity for students, and allows them to receive more information on potential careers. The Club has roughly 30 to 40 members.

Q: What are some of the biggest events the Accounting Club is involved in every year?

A: Every year, the Accounting Club organizes the Accounting Golf Tournament, which is a great opportunity for students to meet with established individuals in the accounting world, including Fisher’s accounting alumni.

Q: How does the entire student body benefit from the Accounting Club’s work?

A: The entire student body benefits from having the Accounting Club at Fisher because it is a club which is open to all majors.  The Club can help provide students with great alumni connections, and allows them to attend presentations that all majors can relate to.  For example, in the past, we have had presenters come in and talk about opportunities with the IRS and how the IRS operates.

Q: How can people contact the Accounting Club for more information?

A: Students looking to get more information on the Accounting Club should talk to any of the accounting professors, club officers, or attend any of the meetings.

Q: What are some initiatives the Club hopes to work on this academic year?

A: This year, the Accounting Club would like to increase its involvement and exposure on campus.  Additionally, members would like to participate in some volunteer learning activities to give back to the community.
