On October 29, the St. John Fisher College Buffalo/Niagara Alumni Chapter named Dan Maxwell '66 and Sam Rizzo '01 as the 2009 recipients of the SJFC Outstanding Alumni of the Year in Western New York Award. Ed.D. Student Receives $9,220 Grant to Conduct National Study

Jennifer Wilson, a student in the Doctor of Education in Executive Leadership Program, has been awarded a $9,220 research grant from the Health Policy & Administration Section of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Wilson will use the funds to conduct a national study about integrating practice management skills into accredited entry-level physical therapist programs in the United States. Read More

Like many of her classmates, Katie Kreutter '09 was prepared to enter the workforce after graduation in May. As a Communication/Journalism and Religious Studies double major, she was interested in pursuing a career in the non-profit field, but was uncertain of how and where she would get started. Salia Farrokh, a fourth-year pharmacy student at the Wegmans School of Pharmacy, is a 2009 recipient of an AACP/Wal-Mart Scholarship. The scholarship funds allowed Farrokh and her faculty mentor, Dr. Jennifer Mathews, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy, to attend the 2009 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Annual Meeting and the Teachers Seminar in Boston on July 18-22. Skalny Welcome Center Art Gallery Opens New Exhibit on November 6

The art gallery at the Joseph S. Skalny Welcome Center at St. John Fisher College will open a new exhibit on Friday, November 6. "Verde Veneciano, Azul Borincano" will be on display through February 5, 2010, and is free and open to the public. The exhibit features the artistic renderings of photographer Edward Witaszek. The highlights of the work displayed are the intense, close-up portraits of statues, mausoleums, and tombs from cemeteries around the world. Read More

Wegmans School of Pharmacy Collects Items for Operation Christmas Child

The Wegmans School of Pharmacy's student chapter of Christian Pharmacist Fellowship International (CPFI) is collecting donations for a service project called "Operation Christmas Child." The project, started by Samaritan's Purse International Relief in 1993, delivers shoeboxes filled with toys, school items, and toiletries to children in destitute areas throughout the world. Kathrine Torres, a 2008 graduate of St. John Fisher College, is the recipient of a First Year Teacher of the Year Award from the Rochester City School District. The award was presented to Torres last spring. She is a fifth grade teacher at RCSD School #33. Read More

Bittner School of Business Co-Sponsors "Pathways to Entrepreneurial Success" Forum

On Thursday, November 12, the Bittner School of Business will co-sponsor the "Pathways to Entrepreneurial Success" forum for aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners. This first-ever event brings together a wide variety of resources and educational programs for entrepreneurs. The full-day event includes genuine entrepreneurial case studies and testimonials, panel discussions, and assistance programs and services offered by the government and other agencies. Read More
