Librarian for:

  • Education – Inclusive (UG)
  • Education – Literacy (MS)
  • Education – Special Ed (MS)
  • Educational Leadership (MS)
  • Executive Leadership (Ed D)
  • Math, Science, Technology Education

Job Responsibilities:

Teaching people how to use library resources as well as their own creativity and passion to find the information they need for academic research or for creating wonderfully engaging lesson plans for the classroom; discovering new and exciting picture books, chapter books, teacher resources, and K12 databases; staying connected to K12 school districts

A typical day:

Moving between my office and one classroom or another to teach library sessions; welcoming drop-ins who ask for help with research or with locating items for making engaging lessons; working at the Research Desk; spending time with the folks in the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. School of Education; searching for new and wonderful items for the Curriculum Center and its K12 databases

My areas of expertise/interest:

Teaching & learning; K12 education; online education; differentiation; finding one’s strengths; advocacy

Others would say that I:

Don’t mind being interrupted; have the only librarian office on Lavery’s Lower Level; know more than the average college librarian about children’s books, YA literature, and teaching

My favorite part of my job is:

Every day is different from the ones before and those yet to come

I love it when:

I see pre-service teachers connecting ideas and creativity to create lessons that are based in solid research and will engage their students

At meetings/work I am always:

Listening to see where I can contribute

Before becoming a librarian/working at a library:

I did many other things...I spent 22 years raising our children and volunteering in schools; ran a business as a professional organizer; was a Board of Education member; taught business writing and public speaking; taught middle school; was a human resources representative for a public utility; worked as a college admissions representative; waitressed through college; worked for Housing and Urban Development after Hurricane Agnes... at age 14, my first job was working nights in a cigar factory; and at age 52 I returned to school for my master's degree in school librarianship
