St. John Fisher College to Support Returning Troops by Participating in VA’s Yellow Ribbon Program
St. John Fisher College is pleased to announce that, beginning in fall 2009, the College has entered into a voluntary agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs to participate in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program), which is a benefit authorized under the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.
This program allows participating private colleges to enter into an agreement with the VA to fund veterans’ tuition expenses that exceed the benefit level authorized under the new GI Bill.
St. John Fisher College Dedicates the Joseph S. Skalny Welcome Center
On Friday evening, June 12, St. John Fisher College dedicated its newest building, the Joseph S. Skalny Welcome Center. The building, which officially opened in late April, was made possible in large part by a $1.6 million gift from the late Mr. Skalny, who was a long-time friend of the College.
Volunteers Travel to New Orleans, Donate $8,500 to Help with Hurricane Katrina Relief
Earlier this month, 29 students, faculty, and staff from St. John Fisher College embarked on a week-long trip to New Orleans to assist in the ongoing Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
Almost four years after Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans, help is still needed. While the city is slowly recovering, it would be impossible without the support of volunteers.
St. John Fisher College Celebrates 55th Commencement
St. John Fisher College graduated more than 800 undergraduate, nearly 230 graduate students, and four doctoral students at its 55th Commencement on Saturday, May 9, 2009.
Lauren Green, a religion correspondent for FOX News Channel, received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from the College and served as the commencement speaker.
