DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Sandra Uwiringiy'imana's photo exhibit of survivors of the Gatumba Massacre will be displayed in the library from January 11 - March 11, 2013.=0D=0AFoundation of Hope Ministries is a multinational organization based in Rochester, NY. This group consists of African refugees, Rwandans, and Americans who are working to raise money to build schools in Rwanda for children who may never be able to attend school, or consistently attend school due to the cost of tuition.=0D=0AFoundation of Hope was founded in Rwanda by survivors of the Gatumba massacre in 2004. The Gatumba massacre occurred on August 13, 2004 in Burundi. Many of the occupants of the Gatumba Refugee camp were Banyamulenge that had fled the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They had fled due to increasing racial violence against the Banyamulenge people. On the night of August 13th, militants attached the camp, killing over 150 and injured many others using grenades, machetes, and fire. The people targeted were the Banyamulenge.=0D=0AFoundation of Hope Ministries has been working since 2007 to assist orphans of the Gatumba Massacre and other at-risk children with educational opportunities through assistance with tuition and other school expenses.=0D=0AFor more information, contact the Office of Multicultural Affairs & Diversity Programs at diversity@sjfc.edu or (585) 385-8378.
