About the Wellness Center

Help ourselves ~ Help the students ~ Help themselves ~ Help others

Mission Statement

We believe that it is our mission to create a confidential atmosphere that is warm, caring and non-judgmental - where all students feel safe to address their physical and mental health needs.

Vision

Our hope is that students will gain an enhanced awareness of their physical and psychological health ~ one that will not only help them develop positive personal identities, but will assist them in contributing actively to the common good of the varied communities in which they will live and serve.

Our Guiding Principles

In order to achieve our mission, the Wellness Center is guided by a set of "guiding principles" that are dynamic, subject to change and foster an appreciation of diversity. Healthy lifestyles throughout the college community are vital to the education process.

  • A student's health at college remains dynamic and reflects those changes in society that affect students' lives.
  • Students must take an active role in addressing their physical and mental health needs.
  • Learning is valuable for its own sake, for the sake of those who learn, and for the sake of society as a whole.
  • Every student is valued.
  • Students are encouraged to reach their full human potential.
  • Human diversity is positive ~ tolerance and openness are encouraged.
  • Students have developmental processes that must be mastered and that are culturally dependent.
  • Students often engage in risky behaviors that compromise their physical and psychological well-being.
  • Students presenting concerns are treated confidentially and with respect.
  • In order to serve students most effectively we believe that it is crucial for staff members to maintain their own physical and psychological well-being.
