Building Security

At St. John Fisher College, we strive for a safe campus along with security in our academic buildings and residence halls. We can only do this with the help and cooperation of faculty and students. Below are some things that should be practiced daily to ensure everyone's safety.
- Carry your Fisher ID with you at all times.
- Do not prop exterior doors, this allows for easy access to unwanted strangers
- Do not hold the door for strangers. As them to swipe in or call the person that they are visiting to come and let them in.
- If you see suspicious activity, notify security immediately.
All residence halls at the college are under a locked system. No one can enter the building unless they live there and have their ID to swipe in with. Students who live in a dorm can only swipe into their specified dorm, they do not have access to any other dorm on campus but their own. The same goes for faculty.
All residential facilities will be locked twenty-four hours a day, except when residents are moving in or out of the facility. All other facilities will be locked whenever possible, depending on use and scheduling.
No one may place a lock on a college facility, interior or exterior, or transfer their keys to another person without the express permission of the Director of Campus Safety & Security, or their designees.
Accessing Buildings When Without Keys or Identification Card
- Any employee who needs to enter a locked campus building or office for work duties before, or after lock-up, and is without his/her key or ID, must request access from Campus Safety & Security. Employees must be prepared to identify themselves to a security officer.
- Access to high security areas will require prior written permission from the Director of the appropriate department.
Accessing Buildings After Lock-Up
Students requesting access to a building after lock-up must be listed on a pre-approved access list at Campus Safety & Security. The student must show a current SJFC I.D. card. A faculty or staff member responsible for that area must forward updated lists to security at the beginning of the semester.
Lost or Stolen Keys
If you have lost your ID access card, please notify security for a new one. There is a $10.00 charge for new ID cards.
