Windows 7 and Office 2010 Updates
The Office of Information Technology is preparing for Windows 7 and Office 2010 on-campus with plans to have the computer labs and ITECs migrated to Windows 7 and Office 2010 by Fall Semester. For our Mac Lab computers on-campus, we are planning to roll out Office 2011 by the Fall Semester.
As part of our preparations we are looking for early adopters who would like to be migrated to Windows 7 and Office 2010 (or Office 2011 for Mac users) to give us feedback on the transition. For individuals who want to wait to upgrade their office computer to the new operating system, we have loaded a section of the 24 hr. Kearney Lab with a Windows 7 image for you to preview the operating system. OIT will be modifying the image that is deployed to campus computers based on feedback from the early adopters. Early adopters will be given training material to help in the transition from Windows XP to Windows 7. The early adopters will give feedback about the training material to help OIT determine the materials that are the most useful. If you are interested in being an early adopter, please contact the OIT Help Desk at 8016 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note that OIT is currently working with Microsoft for Work at Home licensing and media. Microsoft changed the activation model with Office 2010 forcing Fisher to look at other options for Work at Home privileges.
Individuals whose computers will be upgraded this spring can request Windows 7 and Office 2010 instead of Windows XP and Office 2007. Please note that OIT is still evaluating the impact of Windows 7 and Office 2010 on all the applications used across campus.
Over the summer, departments who want to migrate to Windows 7 and Office 2010 will be able to sign up. Individual computers that are upgraded in the fall will be upgraded with computers running Windows 7 and Office 2010.
