Fisher Jefferson Partnership Support Services
Rochester After School Academy (RASA)
St. John Fisher students work with Jefferson's Rochester After School Academy (RASA) to provide free tutoring to students. Fisher students assist Jefferson students individually, and in small group settings to offer academic assistance.
A specific academic focus has involved the formation of a Science-Technology Club in which Professor Sheila Root directs. The club looks at a cross-section of sciences including biology, chemistry, basic physics, astronomy and modern technologies related to all sciences. The club meets monthly and its activities include: "hands-on" lab experiences at St. John Fisher College and a number of field trips including an ecology park, a nuclear power plant, wild life identification, Rochester Museum and Science Center, the Ontario Science Center in Toronto, Canada, and whale watching in Boston. Participation by college students is encouraged.
The quality of our partnership depends on the volunteerism of St. John Fisher College students, faculty, staff and the community. Through a team effort, we can strengthen the academic foundation which will encourage and motivate children to seek a college education.
