Accounting Club Activities Accounting

The Accounting Club, open to all interested students, organizes a number of functions during the year, including:

Golf Tournament

The academic year begins with a Golf Tournament in September that allows students to network with alumni, faculty, and recruiters in an informal setting. The tournament was founded in the fall of 1982, and is held on the St. John Fisher College Golf Course.

Tutoring

Tutoring is provided for students throughout the semester. Students are encouraged to contact the appropriate faculty member first, but on weekends or evenings when faculty are not available, additional tutoring is conducted by upper-class accounting majors.

Involvement with Professional Organizations

All students are encouraged to attend monthly meetings of various professional accounting organizations in Rochester. Students from St. John Fisher College serve on the Board of Directors of the Institute of Management Accountants and New York State Society of CPA Candidates.

Fall Recruiting Schedule

Interviews for opportunities in public accounting occur during October of the student's senior year. The Accounting/Finance Club, in conjunction with the Student Development Office, coordinates the on-campus presentations and interviews conducted by these firms.

Monthly Meetings

The Accounting Club organizes monthly meetings on topics of interest to accounting majors. Business professionals from the community are invited to campus to talk about a variety of topics.

xTax Competition

This year, Fisher is one of only 25 schools nationwide to be selected to participate in the PricewaterhouseCoopers' 2003 xTax Competition. Teams of Fisher undergraduate accounting students work on a hypothetical tax problem, which they present to a panel of PwC partners from the Rochester office.

Green & Seiffer Accounting Challenge

This intercollegiate accounting competition enables juniors and seniors to test their accounting and trivia knowledge against accounting students from various upstate New York colleges and universities.

Deloitte & Touche Tax Case Competition

Once again this fall, we will have a team of undergraduate students representing Fisher in this national tax competition (formerly the Arthur Andersen Tax Challenge). The team typically starts training in August, to prepare for a full-day competition in Boston in late October. In prior years, our team has twice ranked in the top ten teams nationally.

Volunteer Activities

The Accounting Club is active with a variety of volunteer and social activities. Students are involved with fundraising events for the Easter Seals Foundation, Camp Good Days and Special Times, and various United Way organizations.
