Service Scholars Program
"Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as you ever can." ~ John Wesley
About the Service Scholarship Program
The Service Scholars Program is an exciting learning opportunity that allows students to continue their involvement in community service throughout college.
Each year, up to 36 Service Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who exhibit a commitment to community service through activities in their schools, places of worship, community agencies, and in support of their families. Recipients receive yearly awards equaling one-third the total cost of tuition and room and board.
Program Requirements
In order to retain their awards while engaged in full-time study as matriculated students, Service Scholars are required to:
- Participate in a two-course learning community entitled “Leadership Through Self-Development” during the fall semester of their first year at St. John Fisher College
- Attend a service learning seminar course during each of their remaining semesters at the College.
- Make a commitment to community service hours as follows: 130 hours the first year and 200 hours each remaining year
Note: Service hours are coordinated through the Community Service Office. Students can also arrange to have a portion of the community service hours they perform during semester breaks count toward their total semester requirement. - Maintain satisfactory academic progress toward the completion of their degree requirements
Upon completion, students are awarded a Certificate in Service Leadership.
