Campus Life

Campus Life complements academic programs through development of, exposure to, and participation in social, cultural, intellectual, recreational, and governance programs. The College experience is enhanced through a well-planned and diverse array of campus activities.

The Office of Campus Life supports the needs of more than 70 student organizations by providing leadership and advisement. In an effort to enhance the Fisher community, the staff coordinates various committees that challenge and support the needs of students and coordinates programs that assist students to more fully develop life and leadership skills. Information about these programs and services is offered through the Office of Campus Life.

The Student Government Association

The purpose of the Student Government Association (SGA) is to give students a means for expressing their views; to improve their cultural, social, and physical welfare; and to provide a form of government for the supervision of student activities. All full-time undergraduate students are members of the SGA and pay a mandatory student activities fee. Part-time degree students may become members of the SGA by paying this fee, which is used to support a range of activities.

Through the SGA, students at Fisher have a high degree of autonomy in conducting student affairs. Taking part in SGA activities is a valuable social and educational opportunity, so we encourage you to get involved.

Student Activities Board (SAB)

The Student Activities Board is the main programming organization at Fisher, responsible for providing diverse events and activities for all undergraduate students. SAB events include first-run movies; dances; appearances by comedians, hypnotists, and lecturers; trips to spring events, theater, and much more. The SAB office is located on the first floor of the Campus Center. Everyone is encouraged to jump right in and participate!

The Campus Center

The Campus Center serves as the hub and central gathering place of student activity on campus. The first floor of this two-story facility contains general student gathering spaces, which include a performance space, recreational area, offices for student clubs and organizations, and the College Store located. The second floor houses the Offices of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Diversity Initiatives, Residential Life, Campus Life, and Campus Ministry, as well as additional student organization offices and conference rooms.

The Fishbowl

The Fishbowl serves as an annex to the Campus Center. Located in the Michaelhouse Complex, it houses a 24-hour computer lab, and a multi-functional meeting/performance space to host small performances, dances, open-mic nights, rehearsals, etc. Open in the mornings and late night, the Cardinal Café is a coffee shop with wireless computing capabilities that offers a variety of hot and frozen coffee beverages, fruit smoothies, alternative beverages, and an assorted menu of desserts and sweet snacks. Lunch and late night food service are provided by Lackmann Culinary Services for students in the '50s Fishbowl, which includes a living-room-style TV viewing lounge.

Athletics

Fisher recognizes the importance of balancing academics with healthy athletic competition, physical fitness, and year-round recreation. On the intercollegiate level, men currently compete in seven varsity sports (basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, soccer, football, and lacrosse). Women participate in seven sports as well (basketball, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball), as well as cheerleading. Starting in fall 2011, Fisher will have men’s teams in cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field. New women’s teams include cross country, field hockey, and indoor and outdoor track and field.

Growney Stadium is home to the Cardinals’ football, soccer, and lacrosse teams. The stadium’s all-weather playing field extends the outdoor sports season through the winter. Lighting and a 2,100-seat grandstand provide spectators with a bird's-eye view of the action.

Fisher’s athletic hallmark, the Student Life Center, boasts a 19,000-square foot addition, which houses team locker rooms, training rooms, and fitness facilities. The field house has an all-purpose floor, with four module courts that can be used for a variety of sports. There are two racquetball courts, a fitness center, and a sauna in the Student Life Center.

Dugan Yard, the baseball field, is one of the finest collegiate baseball facilities in the East.

Other outdoor facilities include four tennis courts, a track and field complex, a nine-hole golf course, two grass practice fields, and a softball diamond.

Visit the Athletics website.

Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry's aim is to provide for the spiritual needs and growth of people in the Fisher community. Campus Ministry also offers you the chance to do some of the things that may be really important to you whether it's reaching out to homeless people, spending a happy moment with elderly neighbors, sharing faith experiences, or singing in a choir. The Campus Ministry Office is located on the second floor of the Campus Center.

Wellness Center

The Wellness Center is dedicated to promoting healthy behaviors and maintaining an environment which will encourage and allow each individual to realize optimum physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, occupational, and community wellness. The goals of our services and programs are to guide the individual toward developing wellness as a positive value in life. The purpose of the Wellness Center is to provide services, as a supplement to your primary care services, to meet the health needs of the College community and to actively promote lifestyles so that individuals achieve their best potential for well-being.
