Kobi Nathan

A graduate of the Wegmans School of Pharmacy, Dr. Nathan completed his post-graduate residency training at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. After residency, he decided to return to his alma mater and participate in the training of his future colleagues by accepting a position as an assistant professor of Pharmacy Practice in 2013.

In addition to his faculty responsibilities, Dr. Nathan provides clinical pharmacy services and precepts third and fourth year pharmacy students at Monroe Community Hospital, a long-term care facility operated by Monroe County. A board certified geriatric pharmacotherapy specialist, Dr. Nathan is a member of an interprofessional team of healthcare providers, helping the oldest and most vulnerable members of our community.

His interest and specialties include the treatment and care of patients in the rehabilitation unit at the hospital, which comprises patients recovering from strokes, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, and patients living with congenital deformities. Dr. Nathan is also a member of the Geriatric Assessment Team, which provides invaluable service to the community by diagnosing patients with all forms of dementia and offering treatment and supportive recommendations to the patients’ primary healthcare providers.

Prior to pursuing pharmacy practice as a career, Dr. Nathan has nine years of progressive experience in higher education administration and student affairs, and has worked in various institutions of higher learning, private and public. With this experience, he brings an interest in pedagogical and andragogical models of learning theory. He has a particular interest in exploring the concept of andragogy, the study of how adults learn, and how this student population’s approach to learning interfaces with the pursuit of a professional practice degree.

Dr. Nathan’s other research interests lie in exploring pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of all agents in the older adult patient population, and the pathophysiology and therapeutics of neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s and dementia.
