Kirchgessner attended Niagara University, where he received his bachelor of science in nursing degree. From there, he went on to further pursue his studies in nursing at the University of Virginia, where he earned his master of science in nursing as well as his pediatric nurse practitioner certificate. He continued in the program and earned his Ph.D. in nursing in 2006. Prior to joining Fisher, he was the director of the University of Virginia School of Nursing, where he also taught in the past. His field experience includes time on staff at Wilford Hall Medical Center and Humana Hospital, both in Texas, and the University of Virginia Medical Center. He received the University of Virginia Certificate of Appreciation in Recognition of Outstanding Contributions to Nursing Education. He is a resident of Rochester.
