Department of Undergraduate Inclusive Education (DUIE) Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Undergraduate Inclusive Education is to provide candidates with educational programs and experiences designed to help them develop the necessary skills, knowledge, and professional dispositions needed for teaching in educational settings that are inclusive of all children.
The Special Education major is designed to prepare candidates to teach in a variety of inclusive special education settings. Teacher candidates who major in Special Education must also complete a major in a Content Area, or a major in Childhood Education. All courses in the Special Education program are arranged in a block schedule. All courses in a given block must be successfully completed before taking any courses in the next block. It is highly recommended that all Special Education courses be taken simultaneously with the other courses in the block. If courses are split, it may be necessary to fulfill additional field experience hours to complete all course requirements. Double-majors may take their Special Education courses one block behind the corresponding Childhood or Adolescence blocks, but they may not take them ahead of the corresponding blocks.
