Inclusive Adolescence Education
The Inclusive Adolescence Education major will prepare you as a highly capable, ethically responsible teacher with the knowledge and skills necessary to teach all students effectively.
Dual Certification in Adolescence and Special Education
We believe all teachers should be equipped to teach all students, so as an undergraduate education candidate, you will work toward dual certification in general education and special education.
The Inclusive Adolescence Education program results in certification in Adolescence Education (grades 7–12) in a chosen content area with Middle School Extension (grades 5–6) and Students with Disabilities (grades 7–12) Generalist. (A Generalist is certified for employment as a supporting teacher for students with disabilities in content areas other than the your major area of study.)
Dual Major Advantage
As an Inclusive Adolescence Education major, you will earn a B.S. in Inclusive Education and you will also complete a second major (B.A.) in one of the following content areas:
- American Studies
Our dual major requirement means that you will earn a content-area major that is identical to the content major of a non-education student. In other words, if you major in Inclusive Adolescence Education and English, you will graduate with the same English degree (B.A.) that non-education majors earn, leaving your career choices wide open.
Fisher's Educational Experience
The programs of the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education were designed from the outset to be content-rich, clinically-grounded, and intentionally reflective.
In other words, you will learn more than just “how” to teach. You will learn the “what” that you are going to teach. Much of your learning will take place in actual K-12 school settings, working with children and young people throughout the program to hone your teaching skills. You will also have many opportunities to explore connections between your coursework, your field experiences, and your development as a teacher.
