Accounting Internships Spotlight

Jessica Martinez

Jessica Martinez '15

Jessica Martinez, a senior accounting major, has expanded her accounting experience in the spring 2015 semester through her tax internship at Davie Kaplan, an accounting firm in Rochester, NY.

Although a day on the job is never the same for Jessica, she has been exposed to a variety of areas in the tax department even though her main responsibility is to help with straightforward individual tax returns. Along with this, she has had the opportunity to work on other projects that consist of filing different forms for partnerships, corporations, and charities.

One of the most important things Jessica has learned at her internship is that soft skills are essential for any professional career. She has learned that in order to be successful, she has to be open to new opportunities, new challenges, and anything that can make her better at what she is doing.

Jessica will be continuing her education by attending the St. John Fisher College MBA Program beginning in fall 2015. She hopes to become a licensed CPA within the next year and start her career in public accounting. Her dream would be to work for an international accounting firm so she can live abroad.
