Accounting Internships Spotlight

Jessica Martinez

Jessica Martinez '15

Jessica Martinez expanded her accounting experience through an internship at Davie Kaplan, an accounting firm in Rochester, NY, during her senior spring semester

Although a day on the job was never the same for Jessica, she was exposed to a variety of areas in the tax department even though her main responsibility was to help with straightforward individual tax returns. She also had the opportunity to work on other projects that consisted of filing different forms for partnerships, corporations, and charities.

One of the most important things Jessica learned at her internship was that soft skills are essential for any professional career. She learned that in order to be successful, she had to be open to new opportunities, new challenges, and anything that could make her better at what she was doing.

Jessica is currently in the MBA program at St. John Fisher College and hopes to become a licensed CPA within the next year. Her dream is to work for an international accounting firm so she can live abroad.
