Accounting Internships Spotlight
Ryan Lawrence '16
Ryan Lawrence, an accounting and finance major with a minor in Spanish, spent the winter of his senior year as an audit intern with Deloitte.
Through his internship, Ryan gained hands-on experience in the accounting field while building relationships and developing technical skills. His main work involved reconciling account balances to make sure they were free from material misstatements. In doing so, Ryan was able to see the specific procedures used by accountants to prepare the financial statements which investors, creditors, and other users utilize to make strategic decisions.
"Building relationships and clearly communicating with others are not easy tasks," he says. "If anyone is on the fence about taking an internship, I recommend they jump right in. There is nothing to lose and you will always gain valuable experience."
Ryan is currently enrolled in Fisher's MBA program with a concentration in accounting. He has already accepted a full-time position with Deloitte in Houston, Texas which will begin in fall 2017.
