Bittner Dean Invites Eligible Students to Join Beta Gamma Sigma

03/16/2012

On Wednesday, March 14, Dr. David Martin, Dean of the Ronald L. Bittner School of Business, surprised unsuspecting students during class and invited them to join Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), the national honor society for business students and scholars. Traditionally, students are “tapped,” or formally invited, to join the honor society. Martin followed tradition along with Dr. Jason Berman, Professor of Management/Marketing, both dressed in their own cap and gown, and held the tapping ceremony during several classes. In total, they invited 35 students to become members.

The top 10% of juniors and seniors were invited to become members, along with the top 20% of graduating MBA students. In addition, the honor society only recognizes those institutions accredited by AACSB International for membership.

Membership benefits include an alumni network, online communities, access to BGS publications and literature, advanced degree resources, career networking opportunities, test prep discount offers, scholarship program, insurances and financial services, and more. Once students are inducted, they are lifetime members.

Beta Gamma Sigma was founded as a national organization on February 19, 1913. The first national honor society in business was a merger of three separate societies established to honor academic achievement in business at the University of Wisconsin, University of Illinois, and the University of California.
